Last year was the hottest on record for the contiguous United States, shattering the previous mark set in 1998 by a wide margin, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Tuesday.
The average temperature was 55.3 degrees, 1 degree above the previous record and 3.2 degrees more than the 20th-century average. Temperatures were above normal in every month between June 2011 and September 2012, a 16-month stretch that hasn’t occurred since the government began keeping such records in 1895.
Federal scientists said that the data are compelling evidence that climate change is affecting weather in the United States and suggest that the nation’s weather is likely to be hotter, drier and potentially more extreme than it would have been without the warmer temperatures.
Vanderbilt Law School professor Michael Vandenbergh said today’s leaders will be judged harshly by future generations for not focusing on climate change.
“A hundred years from now, they’re not going to be talking about health care or the fiscal cliff,” he said. “But they will ask, ‘What did you do when we knew we were going to have serious climate change?’ ”
John R. Christy, who directs the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, said some researchers are exaggerating the severity of the threat. He said that the right climate target is “in the mind of the beholder,” given that rising energy demand is a sign that many poor people are struggling “to be lifted out of their current condition.”

Meanwhile in China.....
China is experiencing its coldest winter in decades
BEIJING - Ice swimmers were taking their shocking plunges in north China through the thickest ice in years, but most Chinese nationwide are shivering through the coldest weather in nearly three decades.
Freezing weather has sent temperatures diving to a national average of 25 degrees Fahrenheit since Nov. 20, the lowest average temperature in 28 years, says the China Meteorological Administration.
In China's frozen northeast, where the city of Harbin hosts a popular snow and ice festival each winter, temperatures over the same period averaged minus-5 degrees, a 43-year low, according to the CMA.

So you see friends, no matter whether it is RECORD COLD or RECORD WARM...it can all be called CLIMATE CHANGE and blamed on human beings and our nasty propensity to want to light fires to stay warm, (releases carbon) raise cattle for meat (farting cows=methane), drive cars to be productive (carbon) and build factories to make stuff (carbon).
Yes it is true...many scientists are coming to the conclusion that planet earth would be MUCH BETTER OFF had humans simply never evolved on this planet....well at least SMART humans who invent crap....had the world's humans just stayed in Tee Pees hunting and worshipping the Buffalo using sticks and spears....those were the only GOOD humans...living in the GOOD OLD DAYS.and us white folks just came along and ruined everything!!!
Hey? Here is a crazy thought....I wonder if God has anything to do with the weather? I wonder if all the hurricanes, tornado outbreaks, record cold and record warm are more signs that the EARTH IS GROANING....as it longs for Jesus to return and set up His Kingdom?
Hint....watch the news in the near future for some scientists to suggest that in order to SAVE THE WORLD....we need to GET RID OF a whole bunch of humans....because EARTH SIMPLY CAN'T SUPPORT BILLIONS of humans.
