Do you know what the most MISQUOTED VERSE in the entire Bible is?
Yep! Matthew 7:1, "Judge not lest ye be judged."
Have you ever had that verse thrown in your face as you are trying to explain the Gospel? Or while you are debating someone on gay marriage or homosexual behavior? Or when you try and tell someone that porn is damaging to your mind and body? Or when you say that drugs, including pot, should not be legalized regardless of how many godless people shout for it?
As you can guess, I have had that verse thrown at me numerous times. Most recently by an atheist in my family who had posted a Dalai Lama quote to his Facebook site.
Here is how the interaction went;
Relatives post on FaceBook; "Quote from Dalai Lama; 'People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road does not mean they are lost."
My reply; "
Relative; "
My reply;
Relative;
Me;

And there it is!! I could feel that he was getting ready to pull it out! I knew it was one of the ONLY VERSES he knew in the Bible! I know that he is living a lifestyle without Christ and that HE WANTS TO KEEP living exactly as HE CHOOSES without ANY REGARD to his Creator! He wants to live like the Dalai Lama says....doing ANYTHING that makes you happy...and how can that be wrong??
So when ever you get close to pointing out the Truth of what Jesus said about "No one comes to the Father except through me."....it drives them crazy!...and they get ready to draw out JUDGE NOT like a cowboy pulls his pistol in a Western movie!!
So....I attached this website in my next post which clearly shows what the Bible actually says about judging. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO JUDGE!! Otherwise there would be NO CRIMINALS, RAPISTS OR MURDERERS who would ever go to jail....because they would just throw "Don't judge lest ye be judged" into the courtroom and have to be released!
So maybe some of you can use this to arm yourselves with the FULL WORD OF GOD the next time someone misquotes this verse.
The most misquoted verse in the Bible is probably Matthew 7:1, "Judge not that
ye be not judged." We hear this verse multiple times a day. At Troy State
University in Alabama, a professor we met even said that it was one of the Ten
Commandments. Too often we have heard sincere, misinformed Christians and
unbelievers alike say, "I don’t want to judge anybody, but..." Ironically, the
one who screams "judge not" is often the one passing judgment on you!

Also folks, we all need to remember that when we are debating FOR JESUS CHRIST....we need to have love in our thoughts and words. These people are LOST....just like WE WERE BEFORE CHRIST SAVED US!! So everyone be ready to defend your faith...but be praying for the person you are debating with. Who knows? You may be the one who is delivering the Words of eternal life to that lost soul?

Good post Dennis. I see this happen quite a bit too. I have to tend to believe that most people just don't understand the passage rather than purposefully using it to their advantage. The other thing I see a lot are people professing with their tongues to be followers of Christ one minute but then go out partying it up the next for the sake of "blending in." Drives me crazy! We can not be lovers of this world and of Christ, it's either one or the other!
Keep up the great posts!
Thanks Lori! I agree! We need to be "called out" of this world because "the world hated me" so if we are following Jesus closely, the world will hate us too...because we REFUSE TO BLEND IN! I just heard a good sermon on this from Pastor Michael Youseff and it was on the parable of the 10 virgins. He said in his sermon that lots of people have WARM FEELINGS toward Jesus, they may go to church EVERY SUNDAY and even sing Jesus songs...but they DON'T KNOW JESUS and JESUS DOESN'T KNOW THEM! "Depart from me...I don't know you!" When I see people crying for Jesus on Sunday and then find out they were humping the neighor boy who wasn't her husband...makes you wonder if she has OIL IN HER LAMP? Of course we all need to check our pride when we say, "I would NEVER do that!" Pride comes before the fall...so instead I will say...There by the Grace of God go I. Hope you guys are well! If you get to MPLS I hope you will give us a call!
