Pope Preaches a False Gospel

It would appear that the Great Apostasy spoken of to take place in the very last days....is upon us.

Pope Francis rocked some religious and atheist minds today when he declared that everyone was redeemed through Jesus, including atheists.

During his homily at Wednesday Mass in Rome, Francis emphasized the importance of "doing good" as a principle that unites all humanity, and a "culture of encounter" to support peace.

Using scripture from the Gospel of Mark, Francis explained how upset Jesus' disciples were that someone outside their group was doing good, according to a report from Vatican Radio.

"The Lord created us in His image and likeness, and we are the image of the Lord, and He does good and all of us have this commandment at heart: do good and do not do evil. All of us. ‘But, Father, this is not Catholic! He cannot do good.’ Yes, he can... "The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone!".. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”

Got it!  So good works is all we need...even if we are atheists who don't believe in God or the work that his Son did on the cross.

So Mr. Pope?...question from the back row please....If an Arab kills a Jew in the name of Allah and his community is so happy with his "good works" that they throw a party for him and name a grade school in Gaza after him....does that qualify as "good"?  Or is good only what you say is good?

His beliefs are not even Catholic. I wonder how that will play out with the Catholic church? Do they listen to their religion, or listen to their leader? Can a pope be "impeached" so to speak?
Tick-tock, tick-tock...

Do you seriously believe that the Huffington Post has the ability to produce a credible report on any matters Christian?

The pope said Jesus has redeemed all. He also said we all have the ability and responsibility to do good. He did not say all will be saved or that goods works save.

Hi Anonymous,
no, I do not believe Huffington is a credible source for Christian matters. Here is the link for what the Catholics are saying about the crappy editing the the media used to take the Pope's comments out of context. http://www.ncregister.com/blog/jimmy-akin/did-pope-francis-say-that-atheists-can-get-to-heaven-by-good-works/ I can see the points the Catholic article is clarifying. However, I am still clueless on his "good works" comments and also about his comments that good works are in everyone's heart. What?? Christ said NO ONE CAN DO GOOD WORKS...and Jeremiah said the human heart is SO WICKED THAT NO ONE CAN KNOW IT. So yes, Catholics have lots of confusion in their beliefs...and the Pope doesn't seem to be helping to UNCONFUSE anyone with his comments on good works.

Thank you for the link. It includes a quote from Pope Frances that provides a clue regarding his comments on good works: “the Lord has created us in His image and likeness, and has given us this commandment in the depths of our heart: do good and do not do evil”

He is referring to the teaching from Genesis 1 that we are created in God's own image and the teaching from Romans 2 that God has written His law in our hearts. Also, Jesus said that the greatest commandments in the law are first to love God and second to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22).

Men and women are fallen and capable of wicked behavior. We have the ability to act on our evil impulses and do great evil. We are also created by our Father in His image with a capacity for love and compassion. He has given us the the ability to act on the impulse to do good that He put in us through His law.

I don't think this understanding of human nature is uniquely Catholic. From Matthew 25, it seems that Jesus knows that some of us do good and some of us fail to do good.

God's grace and peace to you.
