Polygamy Moves One Step Closer

We have been saying it all along...once gay marriage is legalized, the next group standing in line will be the polygamists.

Advocacy groups for polygamy and individual liberties on Saturday hailed a federal judge's ruling that key parts of Utah's polygamy laws are unconstitutional, saying it will remove the threat of arrest for those families.

U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups said in the decision handed down Friday that a provision in Utah law forbidding cohabitation with another person violated the First Amendment right of freedom of religion.

The ruling was a victory for Kody Brown and his four wives who star in the hit TLC reality show "Sister Wives" and other fundamentalist Mormons who believe polygamy brings exaltation in heaven.

Anne Wilde of Salt Lake City, co-founder of the polygamy advocacy group Principle Voices, said polygamous families have lived under the threat of arrest for decades and no longer have to worry about being charged with a felony.

There are an estimated 38,000 fundamentalist Mormons who practice or believe in polygamy, most living in Utah and other Western states, said Wilde, who was a plural wife for 33 years until her husband died.

"Now that we're no longer felons, that's a huge relief," she told The Associated Press. "They no longer have to be afraid that someone will knock at their door and take away their kids. This decision will hopefully take away the stigma of living a principle that's a strongly held religious belief."

Of course they have a very valid point.  If marriage is no longer defined as ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN...then who really should be able to stop one man and two women, or three women?  Or how about three men?  Why should the state dictate that we can only love and marry one person?

Pandora's box has been opened and soon there will be no end to the people who want the freedom to define 'marriage' as any thing they want.

So how will health insurance companies, Social Security, pension plans, adoption agencies..and all sorts of other organizations deal with what WILL BE coming down the pike?

How do you think God feels about Steve, Ben, Tom and Richard all getting married and demanding the right to adopt some kids?

This will be one other nail in the coffin of our society.

While God is not cool with Steve, Ben, Tom and Richard getting married, and by extension, adopting kids as a "family," it has never been shown that Bob and Carol and Alice couldn't get together in a Godly way, as long as Ted wasn't involved.

I believe the Bible would disagree with polygamy...even with Bob, Carol and Alice. Jesus said a man would leave his family and be joined to his wife...not wives. Also God never created wives for Adam...only Eve. Paul lays down rules for Elders and Deacons (church leaders) and says they should be men married to one woman. Not sure where you get your Biblical view that God would be fine with Bob having multiple wives. In the Bible wherever we see polygamy we see big problems. Marriage between one man and one woman is our earthly example of Christ and his one bride, the Church, made up of all believers who are one body.
