Raising Money to Build the Third Temple

Here are the facts people;

Solomon built the first Temple which was destroyed by Babylon.  The 2nd Temple was rebuilt when the captives got released from Babylon and made it back to Jerusalem some 70 years later.  This 2nd Temple was then added on to by King Herod and is many times referred to as Herod's Temple.  This would have been the Temple that Jesus would have gone to in Jerusalem and overthrown the money changers tables who had set up on the Temple Mount.  This also was the Temple that Jesus said would be destroyed...and it was in 70AD, about 35 years after Jesus' death on the cross...and it was destroyed by the Romans.

That's it!!  Only two temples!!

But a third one WILL BE BUILT.

We know this because the Antichrist will one day sit at this temple and declare himself to be God.  (read the book of Daniel)

This coming third temple MEANS NOTHING TO CHRISTIANS except to show us the lateness of the day...which also means the closeness of Jesus' return for us.  We WILL NOT BE HERE to see the Antichrist sit in this Temple.  This will happen AFTER we are gone.

So we WATCH for the talk of rebuilding the third Temple as just one more sign that gives us confidence the the rest of prophecy is about to be played out in full.

The campaign to rebuild the Third Jewish Temple has entered a new phase beyond the praying, preparation of vessels and training of Temple priests: the raising of additional funds for the project. This would hasten the rebuilding of the temple and in the words of The Temple Institute “usher in universal harmony.” This is a sentiment that is reportedly shared and welcomed with excitement by many Jews in Israel, and is further enhanced by the current war with Hamas and the increasing concerns around the wider perennial Arab-Israeli conflict.

Indications are that in the meantime, based on purely natural, religious and political considerations, it will take much more than just adequate fundraising and social broadcasting to realise the actual building of the Temple: According to Rabbi Chaim Richman, the institute’s international director, the temple would stand in the present location of the Dome of the Rock, a Muslim shrine. Muslims revere the mount as the Haram al-Sharif, or Noble Sanctuary.

No wonder then that Richman did not set a target date for breaking ground for the construction project, instead reportedly stating that the temple will be built when “the world will want us to build the temple. The Jewish people have a responsibility to all of humanity, including Islam…I don’t expect it to come about through any sort of confrontation or any sort of military maneuver. The Jews have to represent good in the world, light in the world.”

The prophesied rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem will eventually take place – simply because God has stated that it will, and He is easily able to ensure it by whatever means or circumstances He chooses to allow it to happen. Meanwhile, Christians and Jews alike would do well to heed the Biblical exhortation to continually pray towards the actualization of God’s will and purposes for Jerusalem and the Jews:

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.”
For the sake of my brethren and companions,
I will now say, “Peace be within you.”
Because of the house of the Lord our God
I will seek your good (Psalm 122:6-9).

Or as was given to the Prophet Isaiah:

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
They shall never hold their peace day or night.
You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,
And give Him no rest till He establishes
And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62:6-8)

If you are reading this and happen to be one of those rare PRETERISTS who have bought into the false notion that all prophecy has already been fulfilled and that there will be no third temple because you believe Jesus is the third temple...then please tell it to the the Temple Institute.  Maybe they will (not) listen to you.

Daniel 9 (inside parenthesis are my comments and explanations)

20 While I was speaking and praying, (Daniel was still in Babylon in exile) confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel (God used Babylon to destroy them because of Israel's sin) and making my request to the Lord my God for his holy hill— 21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. 23 As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision:

24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people (490 years is 70 x 7) and your holy city (Jerusalem) to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place. (Until Jesus returns to earth to usher in Millennium kingdom)

25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem (Cyrus of Persia overthrew Babylon and let Ezra and Nehemiah go start rebuilding) until the Anointed One (Jesus), the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ (483 years) the Anointed One will be put to death (Jesus died on the cross) and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. (Rome did this in 70 AD...and the Antichrist will come from the revived Roman Empire) The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. 27 He (Antichrist) will confirm a covenant with many (Jews in Israel) for one ‘seven.’(7 years...483 + 7 = 490) In the middle of the ‘seven’ (3 1/2 years into the 7 yr peace agreement) he (Antichrist) will put an end to sacrifice and offering. (sacrifice and offering can ONLY BE DONE in 3rd Temple...which needs to be built) And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, (Antichrist will do something horrible in 3rd Temple...like declare himself to be God) until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (Jesus returns at the end of the 7 years and destroys Antichrist, throws Satan in the Abyss and ushers in 1000 year reign)

For further explanation of when Cyrus gave this decree...check it out below;

The Book of Nehemiah covers a period of at least twenty years, from December, 445 B.C., to about 425 B.C., when Nehemiah returned from Babylon to cleanse Jerusalem and the province of various evils that had crept in during his absence since 432 B.C. The careers of Ezra and Nehemiah overlap, as may be seen in Neh 8:1-9 and 12:26. (It is quite probable that Malachi prophesied during the governorship of Nehemiah, for many of the evils he denounced are found to be prominent in the Book of Nehemiah.)

Nehemiah served as cupbearer to Artaxerxes I, the son of Ahasuerus (Xerxes), who took Esther to be his queen. Nehemiah's obtaining authorization to rebuild the walls and city of Jerusalem was the very decree that Gabriel had predicted to Daniel 95 years earlier in 539 B.C. This decree was issued on March 14, 445 B.C. and would trigger the most astonishing prophecy in the Old Testament: The Seventy "Weeks" of Daniel Chapter 9.8 The example of Nehemiah's passion for the truth of God's Word, whatever the cost or consequences, is an example sorely needed in this present hour. May the prayerful study of this book lead more of God's people today to "earnestly contend for the faith which has been delivered unto the saints."

Just a quick clarification on your numbers. :-) In verse 26 you put in brackets that sixty-two "sevens" = 483, but I think you meant to state that the sixty-two "sevens" = 434 then add the seven "sevens" gives you the 483? Though, that leaves another seven years unaccounted for? When I read verse 25, I understand that seven "sevens" AND sixty-two "sevens" will occur before the Anointed One, correct? DJL

Yes, 7 and 62 are 69 so there is still one period of 7 yrs left for the Jews to complete. This last 7 will commence when Antichrist signs peace agreement with Israel and it's neighbors. Also since we know Antichrist won't be revealed until after the rapture...this is an amazing prophecy...and a very exciting time to be alive.

The non-dispensational (ND) viewpoint of Daniel 9:24-27 represents the true, historical Christian viewpoint of this passage. It’s been held by so many great MEN OF FAITH, including John Wycliffe, John Knox, William Tyndale, John Calvin, Martin Luther, John Huss, Charles Spurgeon, and John and Charles Wesley (just to name a few).

Because of this particular passage, dispensational "futurists" unknowingly promulgate a theological system which teaches that Jesus is A WAY and NOT THE WAY to God for all time (i.e. from the time of the “Fall” until Jesus' glorious second coming). Rather, dispensationalists believe Jesus is the way to God ONLY in this “age of grace” (dispensation) and only for Gentiles (but not for all time and all people).

There are many great articles/essays/books on the ND view of Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy from evangelical leaders, but here is a rather good one: http://www.samstorms.com/all-articles/post/daniel-9:1-27

The goal of the 70 weeks prophecy in Daniel 9 is six-fold in nature (vs. 24), and it has been FULFILLED in the first advent of Jesus. And what Jesus fulfilled at his first coming he will consummate at his second. To deny this, is to deny the full atoning work of Jesus Christ. Search the Scriptures (like a Berean) and see how the New Testament provides the answers/guide to understanding the Old Testament. For example, to understanding vs. 24:
To finish the transgression: Isaiah 53:5; Hebrews 10:12-14
To make an end of sins: Hebrews 9:26
To make reconciliation for iniquity: Rom. 5:10; Heb. 10:17
To bring in everlasting righteousness: II Cor. 5:21
To seal up the vision and prophecy: Matthew 5:17
To anoint the Most Holy: Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38

Note that the proper translation in the last line of vs. 24 is “to anoint the Most Holy”, not “Holy place”. Jesus is the one referred to here, not a particular zip code in the Middle East.

Simply stated, there is no ~2,000 year gap between the 69th and 70th weeks. Jesus was “cut-off” AFTER the 69th week…which means he was cut-of IN the 70th week. There is no need to arbitrarily insert into this passage a ~2,000 year gap.

Verses 26 and 27 are not phrased in a modern style of prose that describes events in a strictly sequential and chronological order. Rather, they are structured in poetic style of parallelism in which the 27th verse repeats and elaborates the content of the 26th verse (remember the Bible is God’s Word penned by over 40 authors; and there are many different types of language/styles). So, vs. 26a and 27a are referring to the same person (i.e. Jesus Christ), while 26b and 27b are referring to the same event (i.e. the destruction of Jerusalem). See below (w/ my brackets).

(KJV) 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah (Jesus) be cut off, but not for himself: and the people (1st Century Roman army) of the prince (Titus) that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he (Jesus) shall confirm the covenant (first spoken of in the OT, culminating with Jesus’ death and resurrection) with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he (Titus) shall make it (Jerusalem) desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Sorry Anonymous, I disagree with your comments about "futurists" promulgating. Let me be clear, Jesus IS THE ONLY WAY!

Of course I posted your comment and anyone who wants to read it can see what you are trying to say.

I won't spend time trying to sway you one way or another...but suffice it to say that your points are NOT well taken.

Billy Graham, Dr. David Jeremiah, Dr. Jeffress, Dr. David Reagan, Dr. Oliver Blosser, Pastor Greg Laurie, Pastor Idlemann, Pastor Chuck Swindol, and a whole slew of other highly regarded theologians would vehemently disagree with you.

We ARE living in the gap.

There WILL BE a 70th week (7 yrs) that will complete the 490 years given for Daniel's people, the Jews.

The trumpet WILL BLOW and Jesus WILL COME for His bride and we will meet Him in the air. (Re-read 1 Thessalonians)

And with all the headlines focusing on Israel, Syria, Russia, Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Gaza, etc....I WON'T BE SURPRISED IF Christ came at any moment and transformed us in the twinkling of an eye.

As long as you proclaim to love Jesus and accept the work He did on the cross to take the punishment (wrath) that YOU deserved...you will be part of the rapture...whether you believe it or not makes little difference.
