Frogs, Cheetahs and Bears...Oh My!

Yesterday I mentioned that nature seems to be groaning.  There are numerous headlines talking about strange behavior in animals.

Today on Yahoo News, the animal stories continue.

Cheetahs

A century ago, more than 100,000 cheetahs roamed the wild. Today, the majestic cats number fewer than 10,000—and conservationists and scientists have been trying to figure out why. One common theory: Bigger predators chased away the cheetahs’ prey, making it harder for them to get enough food.

A new study sheds light on another culprit: human-created barriers, such as fences and roads, that force cheetahs to travel long distances to find food.

Frogs

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — An invasion of American bullfrogs that will eat just about anything — including each other — is spreading downstream along Montana's Yellowstone River and poses a potential threat to native frogs, government scientists said Thursday.

Bullfrogs were found in recent surveys along a 66-mile stretch of the river from the Laurel area downstream to Custer, said U.S. Geological Survey biologist Adam Sepulveda. The number of breeding sites for the animals almost quadrupled between 2010 and last year, to 45.

"They are going to eat anything they can fit into their mounts. It doesn't matter if it's another frog or a bird or a mosquito," said Sepulveda, who co-authored a study on Yellowstone River bullfrogs appearing in the journal Aquatic Invasions.

Bears

RENO, Nev. (AP) — You'd be hungry too if you couldn't find any food and were used to eating the equivalent of more than 80 cheeseburgers a day.

An already busy bear season has exploded in the Sierra Nevada with nine hungry bruins captured since Wednesday morning near Reno and Lake Tahoe as an ongoing drought continues to make food scarce in the mountains. A 10th was hit and killed by a car Thursday in south Reno.

Since July 1, Nevada Department of Wildlife officials have caught 42 black bears and released all but two back into the wild. They said two repeat offenders had to be killed — one so bold it was rummaging through picnic baskets in July on a busy Tahoe beach.

Student Killed by Bear

The Rutgers University student who was mauled by a bear while hiking last week in a New Jersey nature preserve did not antagonize the animal before he was killed, said police.

Authorities believe 22-year-old Darsh Patel and four of his friends were aggressively targeted and chased by the bear while trekking West Milford's Apshawa Preserve on Sept. 21.

In the group' terror, they split up in different directions to get away.

Patel's body was later recovered alone, with the hulking 300-pound animal protectively circling him until fatally shot, said police.

Wait a second....did I hear that was the first black bear attack EVER in New Jersey?

Did I hear correctly that bear season has EXPLODED in CA?

Is it true there is an INVASION of bullfrogs threatening Montana's native species?

Could it be that cheetahs may soon be extinct FOREVER?

It does appear that nature is groaning....

As prophecy watchers, one thing to watch for is an increase of people being harassed and killed by wild animals.

Why?  Because some day, (probably much sooner than people think) the pale horse of Revelation 6 will be turned loose.....and lots of people will be killed by wild animals.
