Israel Approaching 70 Years & Jerusalem is Focal Point of World
Gary Stearman has been a favorite prophecy writer of mine. Today he sent out these comments on Jerusalem and Trump's comments about moving our embassy their.
On Wednesday, December 6th, 2017, President Donald Trump made a simple statement: “Today, we finally acknowledge the obvious: that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. This is nothing more or less than a recognition of reality. It is also the right thing to do. It’s something that has to be done.”
Speaking from the White House, his statement also reminded listeners of the traditional failure of many past Presidents to make this declaration: “While previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver. Today I am delivering.”
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “This is a historic day. We’re profoundly grateful for the president for his courageous and just decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to prepare for the opening of a U.S. embassy here.”
At Prophecy Watchers, we have noted for some time, that as we approach Israel’s 70th Anniversary as a modern nation, there will be a quickening of prophetically significant events. And we have arrived: On May 14th, 1948 (Iyar 5 in the Jewish Calendar), Israel realized statehood on the 50th Anniversary of the First Zionist Congress in Basle, Switzerland.
This year, May 14th on the Julian Calendar, Israel’s 70th Anniversary comes 24 days after Iyar 5. And so, whichever calendar you use, the period of late April through mid-May, 2018, will mark the passage of 70 years in which Israel has been a sovereign state.
If Israel’s years are compared to the life of a human being, the words of Moses tell a great story: “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away” (Ps. 90:10).
Thus far, Israel’s short life has been marked by struggle, and it appears that her eighth decade may well be a fight for her very survival. Two things must now happen, amidst fierce and growing opposition: First the U.S. Embassy must be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Then, some sort of facility must be opened there to function as a capital building. Perhaps it could be built adjacent to the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament.
But one thing is certain: There will be well-orchestrated resistance from a variety of Islamic foes, who still regard the Temple Mount as their own, as well as much of Jerusalem. They will be loath to relinquish their foothold.
Still, the biblical view of Jerusalem is clear: Psalm 122 says it well:
“1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. 2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. 3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: 4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD. 5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. 7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. 8 For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. 9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good” (Ps. 122 1-9).
David’s words are prophetic. Jerusalem will one day be united. Thrones of judgment will be set there. Justice will be established in the House of the LORD!
