Jesus Returning to Condemn and Judge

 What he says is so true!  Even most Christians want to believe that Jesus is never going to condemn anyone when He returns.  They want to believe when he returns that he's going to teach everyone to sing kum-ba-yah and hold hands and make a big Coca Cola commercial about teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony.  He's going to embrace all the Buddhists and Muslims and Hindus and even the Luciferians and tell them how wonderful they all are and how much he loves them all!

Of course this is a lie from the pit of hell!  It's exactly what Satan wants the unbelieving world to believe.  If there is no fear of judgment and condemnation then there is no reason to accept Christ to save you from those things.

At the second coming, when Jesus returns, many people are going to suffer from judgment. Remember, He’s not coming as a loving, turn-the-other-cheek, mild Savior on a donkey crying over the confused Jerusalem. No, Jesus will return as a man of war. That’s one thing many Christians have a hard time with, because when Jesus came the first time it was not to condemn, but to save. But the second coming is completely different. 

Jesus will consume all of His enemies, and He will sit and reign from Jerusalem. And this is the part that, unfortunately, the Jews are fixing their eyes on. They are fixated on the Judge who will come and destroy their enemies and establish His kingdom in Jerusalem. They completely ignore the part that He had to first come to die for their sins. And yet we see there are two different events. The rapture, where we are delivered, and the second coming when the removal of people will actually be for judgment.

One of the most frequently misquoted, and thus misunderstood, verses in the Bible is connected to the most frequently quoted and most famous verse in the Bible:

John 3:16-17

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

John 3:16 is obviously the most well-known and oft-quoted verse. However, verse 17 is the most misquoted, or partially quoted. It is from the latter verse that we often hear the phrase, “Jesus did not come to condemn the world.” That’s true, but the problem comes with the context. Those who quote John 3:17 in an effort to establish that Jesus never condemns anyone, fail to keep reading the rest of Jesus’ words:

John 3:18-19

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Verse 18 interprets verse 17 in that Jesus did not come into the world to condemn the world. Why not? Because the world was already condemned. Instead, He came into the world to save the world from the consequences of man’s condemned state apart from Him.

We also often hear, “Jesus never judged anyone”, which again is not true:

John 5:22-23

“For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.”

In the book of Revelation, Jesus is the key figure. The Greek word for Revelation is apokalypsis, which means “full disclosure” or “to take the lid off, to enlighten”. The full disclosure and enlightenment found in Revelation is all surrounding the person of Jesus Christ. It is Jesus who opens the seven seals, which are followed by the seven trumpet judgments and the seven bowls of God’s undiluted wrath on the earth. It is also Jesus who returns in Revelation 19 and makes war upon the enemy’s forces (19:11).

Although it is a clear Biblical truth that all judgment has been committed to Jesus and that He is returning not as a lamb but as a lion, many today don’t want a Jesus who is a judge. They either want Jesus as a babe in a manger, or they want Him nailed to a cross where He can save them but is unable to interfere with their lives.

It is quite amazing to consider that the Jews rejected Jesus for not being a lion, and many today reject any teaching about Jesus being anything other than a lamb.

For all who believe in the Biblical Jesus, He is the Lion and the Lamb. He is the suffering Savior and the conquering King. He is the Prince of peace and the God of war. He is the Babe in a manger and the Mighty God who saves. He is the crucified Christ and the defeater of death. He is the Holy One of Israel and the head of the church.

Isaiah 53:5

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:9-11

And they made His grave with the wicked—but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities.

Isaiah made it clear that the Messiah would suffer death for the sins of others. Yet, He would see His seed and have prolonged days (resurrecting from the dead). But the Jews didn’t want, or feel they needed, to be saved from their sins. They wanted a conquering King. Many in the world and  in the church today don’t want a conquering King. They want a suffering Savior who saves them and leaves them alone to do and live as they please – the “Jesus never judges anyone” kind of Savior.

It is true, Jesus did not come into the world to condemn it. It already was condemned. He came into the world as a helpless child to prove His humanity, to die a sinner’s death, to demonstrate His love irrefutably, and to rise from the dead early in the morning on the first day of the week in order to prove His deity. He’s coming again to establish His authority. He will first meet the church in the air with the dead in Christ, and then He will come back to Jerusalem with the church to set up His kingdom.

He came once as a humble lamb slain and He’s coming again as the roaring Lion of Judah. If the Jesus you believe in is not those things, you believe in the wrong Jesus.

Revelation 19:11-16

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

This is the “full disclosure” of the Biblical Jesus. He is the King of all kings, He is the Lord above all lords, and, someday, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is the Lord!

Even a casual reading of Revelation 19 should allow you to see that Jesus is going to use a sharp sword to strike down the nations.  That sure sounds like he's going to use the sharp sword to kill people who are the members of those nations.  How else do you read it?

If you have accepted Christ as the Savior then you have nothing to fear.  If you haven't then you should have a great fear of Jesus who WILL BE bringing the wrath of God to pour out upon all ungodly people...which is EVERYONE who hasn't accepted Jesus as Creator/God/Emmanuel/Messiah.
