"I Never Thought...."

The sirens are going off in Minot today as 12,000 people and numerous businesses prepare to evacuate.  Unheard of amounts of rain have simply overwhelmed the dikes, dams and levees.  And of course Bismark, Pierre and numerous other cities all downstream may also have further troubles as walls of water show up on their doorsteps.

Here is one quote that caught my attention from this article;

"I never thought we could possibly have anything even coming close to what is happening in Bismarck-Mandan this year ...," Dalrymple told reporters in a briefing. "There will be a lot of water in the city."

As it was in the days of Noah the people shut out of the ark of course thought that calamity would never happen...even though Noah had been preaching repentance for 120 years...no one would listen.  And as the rain started falling I wonder how many people said, "I never thought...."

God said He Himself would not strive man, giving him 120 more years. Noah did not preach repentence for 120 years (Gen. 6:3). God specifically told Noah exactly who would be on the ark: only Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives = 8 persons (Gen. 6:18). No one listened because Noah did not preach. Only he found favor in the eyes of God (Gen. 6:8)!!!

•The Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence estimates that one girl out of three and one boy out of seven are sexually abused by age eighteen, and that in half the cases their abusers are family members.

•A murder is reported to the police every 21 minutes, a robbery every 48 seconds, an aggravated assault every 28 seconds. It’s estimated that every five minutes a female is a victim of rape or attempted rape.

•The American Psychiatric Association says that "by age 18, a U.S. youth will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence.

•Teen pregnancy has increased 621% since 1940.

•At least 30 million women have been sold into prostitution worldwide in the past twenty years. There are 800,000 child prostitutes in Thailand, 400,000 in India, 250,000 in Brazil, somewhere between 90,000 and 300,000 in the United States—child prostitutes.

•Porn revenue in the United States is larger than all combined revenues of professional football, baseball, and basketball franchises. Child pornography generates $3 billion annually.

•One in every three children conceived in the U. S. is aborted. Over 33 million abortions have been performed in the past twenty years alone.

What a depressing list!

As you read these ,I think you’d agree that there are two words that characterize the world: corrupt and violent.

Those are the same two words that characterized the era in which Noah lived. It became the norm—corruption and violence.

Question is does it even shock us? Hearing this, does it make us weep? Will we just sit at God's table and enjoy ourselves or will we go and work in His fields too?

I believe you are right Myrna. I believe the Bible gives us some hints that only Noah and his family were spared because they were the only humans left who were PURE in DNA. If you read the passage in Genesis 6 about the Nephilim which were the hybrid offspring of women and fallen angels...it gives one something to ponder. When Jesus says the last days will be "as it was in the days of Noah"...it gives you even more to ponder.
