"Not Normal" Fish Attack Injures 60 People

The animals on planet earth continue to act strange.

Today we have a headline out of Argentina describing how piranhas attacked.

Piranhas on a Christmas Day feeding frenzy have injured at least 60 people who were cooling off at a popular beach in Argentina.

The attack happened off the beaches of the Parana River near Rosario, 300 kilometres north of Buenos Aires, where many people were seeking relief from a holiday heatwave.

Medical official Gustavo Centurion says the attack began at mid-morning on Christmas Day and was "very aggressive".

"There were some people that the fish literally had torn bits of flesh from," he said.

Federico Cornier, the director of emergency services in Rosario, says the incident is "not normal".

"It's normal for there to be an isolated bite or injury, but the magnitude in this case was great ... this is an exceptional event," he said.

Hmmm....that is strange.  Whales beaching, massive fish kills, bears attacking, otters attacking, coyotes packing up like wolves, birds falling from the sky and now a swarm of piranhas attacking 60 people in an "exceptional event".

I think we will file this one in the "earth is groaning" department.
