Blood Moon Looniness

Did anyone stay up to watch the first blood moon last Monday night-Tuesday morning?  I did.  It was pretty cool to watch it start to go dark, then get totally dark, then turn red.  I must admit I was hoping for a darker-red color...or maybe some dripping red stuff...but it was impressive all the same!

No doubt it is awe inspiring to look at these heavenly bodies and to have them all come into alignment and create such a view.  And then to contemplate God who spoke these things all into motion and set them on their paths with such precision!!  Surely we worship an awesome God!!

So do I think something big is going to happen on earth and that the 4 blood moons all falling on Jewish feast days is a warning?

Let me repeat....I HAVE NO IDEA!!

Of course if the Rapture happens soon (which wouldn't surprise a lot of us) then, from the safety of heaven we could say, "Wow!!  That was cool!  The blood moons WERE a warning of the coming Tribulation...and those who were paying attention were even LESS surprised when the trumpet blew announcing the bridegroom coming to gather His bride!  Very cool!"

What I do know is that the "Christian" community has a pretty bad record of predicting that things are going to happen WHEN they say they are going to happen.  You can decide for yourselves why I chose to put "Christian" in quotation marks.

I would say that John Hagee went TOO FAR OUT ON A LIMB in telling us, via a best selling book and numerous radio and TV interviews, that doom and gloom was coming to change the world and that these 4 blood moons are a harbinger of it.

Also, please note that I have said that it seems strange for these 4 blood moons to be a warning to Israel WHEN THEY CAN'T EVEN SEE THEM!!  Of course WE can see them all in North America...so could it mean something for us??

I don't know and NO ONE DOES!  Just stay sober and awake because all the OTHER signs happening all at once would suggest that something big is going on...as it was in the days of Noah.

Today, Rapture Ready has a short article on what he thinks is "looniness" that surrounds the blood moons phenomenon.

The Blood Moon Prophecy has become all the rage amongst prophecy watchers. This view was largely started in 2008 by Mark Biltz, founder of El Shaddai Ministries. Biltz used calculations based on lunar cycles to determine that a tetrad (a series four lunar eclipses) will lead to the Second Coming occurring in the fall of 2015.

Pastor John Hagee has done the most to popularize the Blood Moon Prophecy. His latest book, Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change, has reached the top ten of the New York time bestselling list. In his book, Hagee lays out what he calls “celestial signals.” He describes how this series of blood moons will have great significance for Israel. Hagee recently told CBN News:

There’s a sense in the world that things are changing and God is trying to communicate with us in a supernatural way, I believe that in these next two years, we’re going to see something dramatic happen in the Middle East involving Israel that will change the course of history in the Middle East and impact the whole world.

We just had the first of these lunar eclipses uneventfully occur on April 15th. The next one is due October 8, followed by blood moons on April 4, 2015 and September 28, 2015. What makes this tetrad special is that each eclipse takes place on a Jewish feast day.

Although single blood moons happen regularly, four appearing within a two-year-period is fairly rare. Over the past 5,000 years, 142 of these tetrads have occurred. The frequency of tetrads can vary over time. For instance, there were no tetrads from 1582 to 1908, but from 1909 to 2156 there will be 17. The next tetrad will take place in 2032 and 2033. The one after that is slated for 2043 and 2044.

One problem with the current tetrad is that visibility is only possible for someone living in the United States. Since the focus of prophecy is on Israel, the lack of visibility in the Jewish State would seem to cast doubt on the significance of the blood moons.

The background of Mark Biltz is another area of concern. He comes from the Hebrew Roots Movement, which has Sabath worship as manditory, and says Jesus was the Messiah; but He wasn’t God. He is also deeply involved with Jewish mysticism, called Kabbalah. The Kabbalah states that the full meaning of the Bible is never on the surface. Rather, one must search below the surface text, using Kabbalah techniques, to find the true and full meaning. [1]

I’ve been around long enough to know that if people are wrong about the core salvation message, the rest of their doctrine is likely to be full of errors.

The Bible does talk about the moon turning to blood:

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood” (Revelation 6:12).

This blood moon passage is referencing some events that will take place during the Tribulation. It could be the result of a meteorite impact, volcanic eruption, nuclear war, or possibly some supernatural occurrence. A key point to note is that this event will also affect the sun. Since a lunar eclipse wouldn’t be possible if the sun didn’t maintain its normal brightness, I don’t see how it could be connected to this particular prophecy.

I don’t have a problem with John Hagee linking the blood moons in a general way to Luke 21: 25: “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars...” But I fail to see how these lunar events will guarantee something dramatic will happen with Israel.

Just two years ago people were cheering about the now defunct Mayan Calendar prophecy.

As fast as events are evolving down here on earth, I don’t see the need to get our prophetic motivation from star gazing. Only the Lord knows if we will even be around to see the last of these lunar eclipses play out.

“Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).
