Trumps Test Positive for Covid

2020 continues to get even more strange. What do you do if the POTUS is sick with Covid? The Dems are hoping he dies. Some are saying the election has to be postponed until we know Trump is healthy. What if Biden tests positive this week?  Of course the word “unprecedented” is being used. That’s just another way of saying, “you can’t make this stuff up!”

**************************

You don’t have to be an ardent Donald Trump supporter  to feel very sorry indeed for the president and for the first lady, and to wish them well.

The Trumps’ families and friends, like those of so many others stricken with Covid-19 during this pandemic, will be desperately worried, and no-one can know what the future holds. Fairness demands that preparations to postpone the presidential election be made, if only for a few weeks.

A result needs to be legally determined by the time the electoral college formally meets on 14 December and in time for Inauguration Day, 20 January.  Laws and even the Constitution would potentially need to be speedily amended. It would be difficult, but it could be done; before the 1930s Inauguration Day was in March not January.

The concerns about mail-in ballots were exaggerated and partisan; the health and viability of a candidate (and possibly both), is a real threat to the democratic legitimacy of the contest. The situation is unprecedented.

Why would we postpone the election?

There are no guarantees in life. What if on Election night Trump were to have a heart attack? What if Biden were to have a stroke?

What if Yellowstone were to blow up??? As my father used to say that would make one "Mell-of-a-hess!" But in all likelihood, it won't. Just like the likelihood of the Trumpster dying of the VID is less than 2%. Given that he has better health care than most anyone I would say his chance of survival is WAY lower than 2%.

Why would we even think about moving the election (a HUGE task) on a 99% chance or better that there is no reason to? Even if he does die, we have systems in place for those potential eventualities.

The suggestion is inane.
