OK....let's take a look at California. For some time now, California has been the epitome of the "American dream"....the land where you can truly "have it all". Huge houses, movie stars, Mercedes Benz dealers on every corner, the ocean, the mountains, the Sacramento valley that produces more food than any other place in the world....the state is not called the "Golden State" solely for the reason that there is gold there....it is an amazing place.
So if it's so amazing, why does it seem to be so close to tipping over?
This week, the voters of CA are going to go to the ballots to vote on the budget catastrophe that has fallen on this state. The state seems to be upside down on just about everything it has touched. And with the latest bust of the stock market, housing market and employment market...their income is fast dwindling at the very time that calls for government help are increasing exponentially.
If you took their problems and put them in human form, it would be similar to a man making $50,000 in salary, but he owes $500,000 on a home now worth $300,000 he owes $30,000 on a car now worth $10,000, and he owes $50,000 on credit cards and now his salary is being cut to $30,000. It doesn't take much common sense to realize that a man like this is in deep financial trouble. Is anyone going to borrow this man more money? Does he seem like he would be a good risk? If he printed IOU's on paper, would you buy one? Probably not.
I saw this fact in an article I was reading and couldn't help but wonder if CA isn't reaping what it had sewn;
BEACH BUMS - 9 of the 10 largest lenders of the nearly $1 trillion of sub prime mortgages originated nationwide during the 2-years of 2005-06 are based in California (source: Center for Public Integrity).
So maybe CA was the epicenter of greed where the fraudulent mortgage practices were focused? Also, if one takes into account that CA is the center of the porn industry, has Hollywood dishing out disgusting trash masquerading as entertainment, has San Francisco which is the center of homosexuality, and also has one of the largest populations of citizens who are dependent on Government handouts....it makes one wonder?.... Is CA representative of the entire country?
Now today, the headlines are about the CA earthquake, and last week it was about the out of control wild-fires and the year before that it was mudslides and drought... and it makes you wonder if CA is a place where God is withdrawing His hand of protection? Is CA soon going to collapse and crumble because the state has totally ignored God's word? Is he showing us that the "American dream" is truly a nightmare? Is the financial and physical pain going to keep spreading across this whole country?
If it does, let's remember to "Praise Him in the storm", because many people will be drawn to Him when everything does come apart. When the god of Mammon is destroyed, the pain of Mammon worshipers will be great....but maybe then we can finally see the One True God.
